Today was a meeting with the CMT. There was a lot of discussion as to the proposed design project for next year’s Year 3. There project encompasses Rochor Canal, Little India and Mount Emily. I felt that the project site was rather big.

Ideas for revamp of module
I spent the day trying to come up with ideas for a new syllabus for the two modules I have been assigned as coordinator for the next academic year, one on Urban Environment and Society and another on Plants and Site Planning. The previous lecturer who had just resigned focussed too much on urban planning rather than urban and landscape design. I also feel that there is not enough taught on the local culture, history and governance. I feel that this is important in order for the students to come up with a good design for a public open space or a public place. I also decided to remove topics on Urban Planning and include Urban Design Topics and Theories instead. I did not realise that teaching involved so much paper work and planning. I now have to modify the module aims, lecture series, assessments, syllabus, hours allocated to lectures and tutorials FOR EACH MODULE.
New Year Coordinator
Found out that we have our section head as the Year Coordinator for Year 3 next year. Therefore, whatever we have planned was not relevant as we did not expect another co-lecturer let alone a new year coordinator to come in.
Ideas for Year 3 in new academic year 08-09
I had a good discussion with my co-lecturer for next year’s class. We threw out ideas and discussed potential problems and issues from the current Year 3 curriculum and what should be retained and what could be removed from the syllabus. This is in preparation for a meeting with the Course Module Team on the 26 February.
